The story of YouTrain project

Where did we start?

The project idea was presented by Sergio, Olga and Giorgi on the Guild’s seminar in Austria in spring 2017, and already there we prototyped a video tutorial of the "Atoms and Molecules" energizer on the spot.

What do we aim?

The YouTrain project aims to increase the quality, reach and impact of non-formal education activities by creating a video toolbox for educators, and by promoting the use and production of educational video-tutorials in general.

Who are the partners? The project unites 4 organisations: Coobra – cooperative braccianti (Austria, applicant partner), Ha Moment (Portugal) Euromove (Netherlands), and the International Youth Work Trainers Guild (Germany/Europe wide).

Who are the people behind the project?

Authors of the video scripts: Sérgio Gonçalves, Yuliya Stankevich, Olga Kuczynska, Snezana Baclija Knoch, Jan Lai and MarCus VrecerGraphics and illustrations: Coline Robin and Marco PolitanoTechnical support: Giorgi Aronia and Vitalii VolodchenkoVideo production: Sijmen Tenwolde, Reinout van Schie

What did we produce?

A set of 5 introductory videos on important aspects and considerations in non-formal education, a set of 15 video tutorials on specific methods in non-formal education, and a manual on how to produce video-tutorials by yourself.

How did we start?By watching videos together for hours is usually a chilling evening activity, during the kick-off meeting in May 2018. Out of a dozen examples we wanted to extract the best features of educational videos in order to make own video tutorials well.

How did we record the videos?

The footage for video tutorials was shot during the YouTrain event “Method Lab” in late October of 2018 in Payerbach, Austria. 23 people in total took part, including facilitators, video and visual teams, from 13 countries, with 3 cameras and 1 drone. We are grateful to the international participants of our event for their willingness to appear in the video. You can get some insights from the training in the top video at right.

From where did we get the funds?

YouTrain is co-funded by ERASMUS+ programme of the European Union. More specifically, through the Austrian National Agency for ERASMUS+ under the “ERASMUS+ Key Action 2 - strategic partnership in the field of education, training and youth” granting scheme: https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/
